Blogiversary Extravaganza: Giveaway/Review of ELH Diaper

Week three of my Blogiversary and things are going great.  I have already given away a Rumparooz Diaper and CJ Butter to one lucky winner.  I have a giveaway going for a Baby K’tan right now.  That ends on Saturday so get your entries in there.  I have also had some amazing guest bloggers for you so far.  It has been so much fun and the fun just keeps on coming.

Now I have another cloth diaper for you.  ELH Diapers is a WAHM who makes the cutest minky pocket diapers.  I have reviewed her diapers twice here already.  Once when she first started out and then again after a design change.  And now I am going to take some time to do another review for her because she has updated her design again.

The New ELH Diaper

When I approached Kelli about doing a giveaway on my blog she was totally game.  As a matter of fact she was so excited she said here why don’t you do a review of the diaper too and then give one away.  So she let me pick from her already made diapers.  I immediately chose the Save The Planet design because I have been wanting a green diaper to go with a dress I have for my daughter and this looked perfect.

So Kelli got it right out to me.  Now something I should mention is she used to supply a microfiber towel with her diapers, but she stopped doing that because the towels weren’t absorbing enough.  She does have plans to make her own inserts, but as of now she sends them without inserts.

The only pocket diapers I have are ELH diapers.  So I didn’t have any other inserts but the microfiber towels I had from those two.  So when I received my diaper in the mail thinking I’ve never had problems before I just decided to use one of my microfiber towels.  Unfortunately it seemed to wick out by the legs.  I was so shocked, this had never happened with her diapers before.  The diaper wasn’t very wet on the inside, but just around the legs on the outside it felt damp.  Huh, well, maybe her new design wasn’t conducive to the microfiber towel for some reason.  So I talked to some cloth diaper friends and asked what their favorite inserts are.

One of my friends recommended that I try a newborn pre-fold inside of it.  Hmmm, sounds reasonable and they are inexpensive.  I didn’t have any pre-folds so I ordered two.  One for my diaper and one just in case I liked it to add with the winners diaper.  While I waited for the pre-fold to arrive in the mail I wanted to try the diaper out again after washing it and letting it go through the dryer.  I don’t normally dry my covers, but Kelli usually recommends when you first get her diapers to put it through the dryer to help seal the stitching.  I hadn’t done that in the past, but I figured I could give it a try.  And being impatient I wanted to see if that solved the problem.  So I tried it out by putting one of my flats in as an insert.  Unfortunately same problem.  I was getting discouraged, but I figured I’ve got time to try the pre-folds.

So when the pre-fold arrived I prepped it and finally tried it out last week.  Much to my pleasure it worked, no wicking out the legs.  What a relief.  I didn’t want to giveaway a diaper that I wasn’t happy with and I’ve always been happy with ELH diapers.  I couldn’t figure out what was going on.  And for the record, I spoke to Kelli about the problems and she had never heard of this through all of her testing and since she started selling the new design.  So we are both stumped.  Maybe it was just the insert wasn’t covering enough inside to absorb by the legs.  Who knows, it contained her nicely.  And as a matter of fact she even had a loose stool in it this time and it all stayed inside the diaper.  The true test there, right?  If it keeps poo contained then we’ve got a winner.

What Is The New Design?

All this talking and I didn’t tell you what’s new about it.  Well, first of all the outside used to be minky on the outside with a strip of design around the waist.  Now there’s all cotton outside cover with the minky inside.  So a nice plush soft material right up against baby’s skin.

The other huge change is the location of the pocket.  The very original design had the pocket in the front, then it was moved to the back, and now she has gone to an envelope pocket.  I asked why the change because I liked the other designs better and she said because it made it a more trim design.  With the pocket in the back she had to put extra elastic in.  So the envelope pocket more in the front/middle prevents her from having to use the extra elastic.  However, I found it harder to actually stuff.  I think she’s right though, it is trimmer.

So I do think it’s trimmer.  It still has the rise snaps.  It’s still good for baby’s 10 pounds up to about 35 pounds.  My daughter is a peanut.  I do have it on the 2nd rise snap.  She’ll get plenty more wear out of these diapers for sure.  Here’s a side by side comparison of these two diapers on the inside…

The old is on the left and new is on the right.  Still seems to be about the same size, but if you look closely you can see the difference in the pocket.

Using A Pre-Fold As An Insert

Okay, so the pre-fold as an insert might seem a little unorthodox, but it gets the job done.  Here’s what I started out with for a pre-fold…

And with that I just fold it lengthwise into three like so…

And then just put that into the diaper.  It fits pretty nice into the ELH diaper like this.

Giveaway

So what do I have to giveaway?  One ELH diaper valued at $18 and one pre-fold diaper size newborn to use as an insert if you’d like valued at $1.50.  Total prize value $19.50.  I am in possession of this item.  It will be shipped to you direct from me.  It is not the same design as I tried out, it’s called World Traveler and I think it will make a nice gender neutral diaper.  But you can be the judge.

This giveaway is open to US residents only and you must be 18 years of age or older to enter.  There will be one winner and the odds of winning depends on how many enter.  All entries will be verified first so make sure you follow instructions carefully.  Winner will be chosen at random by me using the Rafflecopter widget.  Prize will be shipped free of charge by me to the winner.  Please allow 4 weeks for shipping.  If you have any questions please email me.

Lets get on with the entering.  Good luck!
