We’re still here in NH enjoying a family vacation, or trying to. I don’t know, the kids might be competing to see who can throw me over the edge to make a long distance phone call to the doctor for help. An extremely swollen bug bite for one and some potty issues for another. So far old fashioned over the counter remedies have been working. Phew, I often worry about how to handle an out of state ER visit. Would like to avoid that at all costs.
But even with all of this excitement I have some minor pet peeves I felt the need to discuss while I wait for some laundry to wash before I have to start cooking dinner. The kids are all happily entertained outside in some way. Have I told you that I love living out in the middle of nowhere where I don’t have to be a helicopter parent? Or at least not as much of one.
Sorry, I keep getting off topic. Must focus. I’ll blame it on the vacation, ha.
Blogging Pet Peeves
So even though I’m on vacation I am still “working”. I still read blogs, just not as much as usual. But there’s this one thing that bugs me about some of the blogs I have read. We’re all on Pinterest right? Okay, I shouldn’t speak for everyone, that is a pet peeve of mine as well. So I’ll try not to make any huge assumptions. But I’m guessing if you’re reading my blog then you also have a relatively good internet connection. You can probably do a search and if you’re on Pinterest can find ideas on Pinterest if you so choose to, right? I know I can.
So when I read a blog from someone who promises ways to help party plan or give craft ideas to do with my kids I don’t really want to be linked to where the idea was found. Not that you shouldn’t link because you should always always always give credit where credit is due. I know I am slightly guilty of link posts myself with the occasional link love posts I have done. There’s really no point in reinventing the wheel sometimes. However, if I am a regular reader of a blogger and this blogger claims to do all of these crafts and activities with her children it sure would be nice to see her actually doing this stuff with her kids. Not giving me links to stuff she found and thought would be fun. Or at the very least please let me know if you and your children found it to be easy.
You see I might have kids in the same age range as yours with similar interests. So I want to know how it worked for YOU and for YOUR kids. Not someone I have never read before. You can link to those posts, but at least make it clear that you have actually done the activity with your child and it has gotten the seal of approval so I know if it’s worth my time to go and look. And if you haven’t, then don’t start out the post saying I have been using Pinterest to keep my kids occupied and for the most part it’s working because that just leads me to believe you’re going to be sharing your tried and true secrets.
There’s nothing more annoying than clicking on a recommended link and then finding out it isn’t what you expected it to be at all either. So please if you’re going to tout about some wonderful activity you have been doing, then please at least make sure you have done it so you can share your actual experience with it. Because I am more than capable of finding this stuff on my own, I’m looking to be told it’s worth my time with my own children.
