Twas The Night Before Back To School

Twas the night before back to school, when all through the house
Not a bit of laundry was stirring, not even a blouse.
The backpacks were hung by the door with care,
In hopes that the school bus soon would be there.

The children were bathed all tucked in their beds,
While visions of pencils danced in their heads.
The outfits were all chosen and laid out for the day
With snacks all packed and lined up on the buffet.

The oldest was filled with butterflies and nerves,
As the thought of 8th grade gave her some reserve’s.
Daughter number two was filled with delight
For 5th grade did not give her a fright.

The boy about to start Kindergarten did not want to go to bed,
Just one more story Mommy, is all he said.
You need your sleep my dear little one,
So lay your head down and have sweet dreams my young son.

The baby has been all smiles and giggles all day,
It’s almost as if she doesn’t want the big ones to stay.
When they are all gone she’ll search for them high and low,
And when they are not in sight she’ll begin to bellow.

The hubs and I are in for a treat
Even though the departure of the 3 will be bittersweet.
We will fill our time with some busy work
To keep the tears from beginning to lurk.

Three smiling kids is what we hope to see
When they finally arrive home to tell us their story.
All of this is me trying to say
Happy Back To School Day!
